— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

In Sauvenière, in the province of Namur in Wallonia, architecture firm STARC designed the extension of an existing industrial building to support and expand the site's economic activity. The project comprises two complementary parts: a single-storey production hall connected directly to the existing structure, and a section housing offices, a showroom and training facilities, positioned along the ravel path to take advantage of the most favourable orientation and views.

The extension's massing strictly mirrors that of the original building, and the anthracite metal cladding of the hall volume echoes the materials found both on the existing structure and on the surrounding buildings. The white rendered facade of the office section introduces a contemporary note and a controlled contrast that clearly differentiates the two programmes while preserving the overall coherence of the composition.

The layout and shape of the window openings follow the spirit and logic of the existing building, ensuring a carefully considered integration into the built environment. The result is a functional and unified ensemble, consistent in its materiality and firmly rooted in both its built and natural surroundings, meeting the demands of sober and contextually sensitive industrial architecture.
